“Tamako Love Story” anime movie opening in April 2014!

Tamako Love Story

These last few weeks really have been turning into very, very happy times for me in regards to anime goodness (maybe that’s just because I love a lot of romance anime and Kyoto Animation series’?). After the exciting news of SHAFT’s Nisekoi and Kyoto Animation’s Chunibyo demo koi ga Shitai Ren series’ starting next month, the news is still piling up! A few months ago, it was revealed that Kyoto Animation were working on a follow-up project after the 12 episode slice of life anime Tamako Market, which aired between January-March of this year.

The director, scriptwriter and main cast of the original series are coming together once again for Tamako Love Story – an anime film set to open in Japan on 26th April 2014.  Despite being mostly slice of life, the original series did have quite a romantic edge to it – and even left the main love-square unresolved, so maybe this will be the resolution fans like myself have hoped for?

Personally though, I was hoping for a Kanna Market TV anime focusing on Kanna, because she’s awesome:

The original series centered on Dera Mochimazzwi, a bossy, overweight bird from a tropical island who departs on a journey to find a suitable wife for his Prince. Eventually, he ends up in Japan and in particular, the Usagiyama Shopping District, where he befriends Tamako Kitashirakawa, the daughter of a Mochi shop owner and soon becomes acquinted with both the lives and love lives of the shopping district’s residents. The series has been licensed in North America by Sentai Filmworks.
